About Me

I embarked on my career in 2003 as a singer for 'Dida' band, led by Neguinho do Samba, famous for creating the Samba Reggae Rhythm and for performing alongside Michael Jackson and Paul Simon.

In 2004, I became resident singer for all-female band 'A Mulherada’ - an NGO and music project to empower and educate black women in a state of social vulnerability.

In 2005, I started to sing with the band 'Male De Balé' - traditional folk African-Brazilian music group that has won the title on the Guiness book as the biggest Afro balé in the world and with which I have done my fist international performance in Saint Tome and Principe - an African country near Cape Verde.

We also took part of the footage of 'Sonic Mirror’ - a documentary about Billy Cobham, American jazz drummer.

In the same year, I did a short Italian tour with a Brazilian folk dance group and was invited to come to London and join the 'Quilombo School of Samba’.

When I decided to settle in London, I was invited to sing in 'Eri Okan' - a famous 'Bloco-Afro' (African rhythms event), created by English musician Sam Alexander.

Later in 2007, I started to sing with 'Tribo Band', an Afro-Indigenous Brazilian charity which helps disadvantaged communities in Morro de Sao Paulo (Bahia, Brazil).

I was also invited to be on 'The One Show' and 'The Alan Titchmarsh Show’, among other tv, stage and public event appearances.

In February 2012, I traveled to Seychelles Islands along with 'The Notting Hill Road Show' group to perform in their carnival.

I took part in the London Olympics closing ceremony, performing as a passista during the Flag Handover to Rio de Janeiro, among celebrities like Pelé, Seu Jorge and Alessandra Ambrósio.

In September 2012, I started to perform my own show "My Roots"  in several venues in London such as Sushi Samba, Somerset House, and Royal Festival Hall, as well as performing at Guanabara Club in a regular basis.

In 2013, I started to sing with 'Paraiso School of Samba' and took part in the Notting Hill Carnival parade and Thames Festival.

In 2014, I performed as guest entertainer (singing and teaching samba and zumba) at Holland America Cruise line, and took part as singer and dancer in Silja Line Scandinavia Ferry, working for 'Oi Brasil Group'.

At the end of 2016, I joined the 'Viramundo' band and since then we’ve been performing in a variety of venues such as Coya Mayfair, Sumosa Twiga Knightsbridge, Summer Streets on Regent Street Festival, and corporate parties (worth mentioning Baroness Anne birthday party at the House of Lords in October 2019).

I also carry on with my personal project 'Elisangela Mahogany and Band' every Friday at Gabeto Camden Market.

I was born in Salvador-Bahia, Brazil.

I've been living and performing in London as well as all over the world since 2006.

In 2017, I have taken part in the X Factor UK series and gained great press coverage world wide, despite the controversial tv show strategy, it was a mile stone in my life and many people still recognise me from it. However, everything started way earlier…
